breaking up
Katlin H asked:

i’ve had alot of weird dreams lately and a few times i’ve had the dreams where your boyfriend breaks up with you in the dream.
this dream doesn’t happen alot but it happens every once and a while and i do sleep in the same bed as him and i usually wake up quickly and sometimes start to cry in the mornings.
i don’t fear breaking up but these breaking up dreams are strange? is it coming back to me, because i had a fear of breaking up before or is it because i’m just stressed out?

Any time that I have had a dream of breaking up with someone, I always took into account what was said in the dream as well as the surroundings. If the place that you are in in your dream is a replica of where you live, it could be your subconscious saying that something has to change. Not even breaking up just maybe sleeping in separate rooms, or spending a week at a friends place. This is just from what i know.

There is something to look at here; this is more than just fear and anxiety. You are picking up on something lately and you need to pay attention.

Great question and, just to help allay some anxiety, it’s not uncommon for this type of dream to occur -regardless of the strength and trust in a relationship.

One thing to consider as you reflect on your dreams is to refrain from looking at your dream content (characters, circumstances, etc) in a true, literal, linear sense. That is, although you are dreaming about the relationship between you and your boyfriend, your unconscious (where dream states originate) may be trying to send your conscious (waking state) a message about something else.

For example, consider the possibility your dream is a result of, as you mentioned, “because [you’re[ just stressed out.” That’s a great place to start -if, in fact, your stress is NOT related to some concerns about your boyfriend.

Let’s assume your stress is about work, family, a new location, losing savings/investments in the recent economic downturn, the sickness or death of a loved one, etc. If any of those (and similar issues) are possible reasons for your stress -AND you are internalizing this stress (via suppression or repression) then there is a strong likelihood your dreams are manifesting that stress and “using” your relationship between you and your boyfriend to get your attention.

That does not mean there isn’t any stress in your relationship … my point is simply to encourage you to take a look at what’s happening in your life through a different lens.

Good luck -and have fun reflecting on your dreams!

I envy those girls who cried on behalf of the boy’s part. I never saw my girlfriend crying for me even if it is only in the dream. Crying meant love right? But I am on the contrary. It is embarrassing but I did cry often when she gets mad at something and the day she left me. I was crying but it didn’t work out. Now she’s gonna marry some guy. Me? Here commenting my heart out. I just want to get this over with.
I am now in a nightmare. This isn’t a dream. This is my reality. I just can’t forget her.
